The reason given was for grip [purchase on the ground]. I always found it difficult to understand how this might help and why being barefoot altogether wouldn't be better. Still, it does appear to have been an historical choice.

I daresay, given the nature of both shoes and ground, there were quite a few folk who lost shoes in the mud.

I enjoyed this post.

StephenDuke of Baylenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02192929271655893946noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2376354336542825843.post-62553499951265119282018-09-22T22:09:55.179-07:002018-09-22T22:09:55.179-07:00Looking really great sir!Looking really great sir!Michal DwarfCrypthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05915669873652904866noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2376354336542825843.post-79595403215612585862018-09-22T14:46:56.367-07:002018-09-22T14:46:56.367-07:00They look good. The 'one bare foot archer'...They look good. The 'one bare foot archer' comes from a 13th century English legal document known as "Liber A." The manuscript depicts Welsh warriors - not just archers - as having only one shoe and their other foot bare. This presumably allowed them to keep a balance on hilly or rough terrain. It's the only source of this that I know of. There may be other sources mentioning it.A Jhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07834159033854153921noreply@blogger.com
